Let Us Support You Spiritually

Ascension offers free Virtual Spiritual Care for patients. This wonderful resource provides support, guidance, and comfort for persons of all faiths whenever needed.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

Virtual spiritual care allows patients to speak with a board-certified chaplain to voice concerns and find support during difficult times. Spiritual health is an essential part of providing care that treats the whole person: body, mind and spirit. 

Patients have access to a no-cost, Virtual Spiritual Care, or telephone spiritual care visit, through athenahealth after receiving a referral from a DCHC primary care provider.​​​​​​​

Below are some common signs of spiritual distress that may benefit from a referral:

• New diagnosis or poor prognosis

• Quality of life concerns​​​​​​​

• End of life issues

• Grief/loss/life transition

• Pregnancy/perinatal loss

• Addictions/mental health

• Feeling alone and more

Chaplains serve all people, those who follow a particular faith tradition and those who do not.

We value each person’s unique spirituality and honor their beliefs without judgment. 

Upon receiving the referral, our chaplains will call the patient and:

• Assess the patient’s spiritual needs

• Create a care plan to address those spiritual needs​​​​​​​

• Document the interventions with the patient in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) to communicate with the care team
